Raised in Derry Northern Ireland, Kieran was one of those 80’s kids with an obsession for film, television and photography (with a particular love for German Expressionism). When aged 13, his Uncle gave him his first camera, a Pentax ME, he started creating his own visuals.
Driven to try and work with cameras in any form, Kieran began his professional career over 25 years ago as a News Cameraman working in Belfast covering news, sport and documentaries for UTV, later spending a further 15 years as a Principle Cameraman for the BBC. Adding to his skills, Kieran is also an experienced Steadicam Operator, working across both drama and television. Inspired by his love of narrative and beautiful visuals he has pushed his factual work to reflect the cinematic aesthetic. Continuing to develop close working relationships with directors, Kieran has been regularly nominated and won Royal Television Awards as a DOP.
His more recent move into drama has been a natural progression, being able to access his extensive film knowledge, love of script, and ability to think creativity, producing beautiful work. His short films have been selected at several worldwide festivals and won awards, whilst his feature film debut ‘Dead on the Vine’ recently won Best Feature at director Kevin Smith’s inaugural ‘Smodcastle Film Festival’.
